Recently, an article on Houzz grabbed my attention. The article was praising the african juju feather hat and suggesting various methods when using these african accessories as decorative pieces in the home. The pictures used in the article are eyecatching. In my opinion, the feather hats are very appealing and could definitely give any room in the home a stylish and modern appeal.
When I reached the end of the article, I noticed several negative comments. The comments were from various individuals that argued that while the pieces are indeed beautiful, what about the animals that were killed to create the hats? I will admit, I’d not considered this perspective. I am also sure that the article writer was not thinking of this perspective either.
An african juju feather hat orignated in the country of Cameroon. Tribal Chiefs and other leaders wore these hats in an effort to stand out and set them selves apart. The feathers of the juju hat represent prosperity and wealth.
As of late, juju feather hats have been used in contemporary home decor. As you can see in the image below, the large fluffy hats are very striking and definitely catch the eye.
What do you think about using authenic juju feather hats as home decor? Do you think it is selfish to use real feathers for vanity?
