Faux marble painting is usually used on surfaces such as countertops or tiles. This is a great option for home owners who love the look of marble but may not have the budget for marble floors or countertops. Painting faux marble is not too complex. The process involves several steps. The steps range from painting the entire surface a base color and adding smaller dashes of paint in contrasting colors to create the marble pattern. Because this project is carried out through several steps, this project usually spans over a couple of days. DIY Network.com offers a step by step tutorial on faux marble painting.

Faux Rug
A very creative painting technique is using paint to create a “permanent” rug. Area rugs are commonly found in living rooms and dining rooms. While these rugs are appealing and enhance the style of the room, carpet can also carry germs and odors. If you desire the look of a rug but not the germs, consider painting a rug on your floors. This technique can also be a DIY project especially if a stencil is used. HGTV recently shared a modern painted area rug.
